Early Life and Lineage
Geoffroy de Villehardouin, a prominent French feudal lord, was born to Wilen de Villehardouin and Dameerun around 1150.
He was the fifth of six sons, inheriting the Château de Villehardouin upon his father's death between 1145 and 1170. The castle was strategically located on the border of the dry, rocky limestone and the wet, hilly regions of Champagne.
Military Service and Knighthood
In 1172, Geoffroy became a knight and served as a vassal of the Count of Champagne in the Châtelet of Troyes.
