A few years after leaving school he was employed as a bird keeper to oversee the protection and preservation of waterfowl in Regents Park. This early experience gave Guy the inspiration to what would become a lifelong love for nature and birds. Guy later moved to the Essex coast where he could observe shorebirds in their beautiful natural surroundings.
Using raw materials from the coastline such as weathered timber, driftwood and seashells he created hand carved bird sculptures which later gave him the nickname ‘Bird Man’.
